May 22nd 2016 marked my third visit to to Llanberis in 3 years to compete in the Iconic Always Aim High Slateman Triathlon.
I love this event, beautiful welsh mountain scenery, a tough challenging course, a stunning yet brutal run up the quarry path and over the years I have made some good friends who I can spend the weekend with.
Here is my write up from Slateman 2014 and last years 2015 Slateman.
Could I return and win for a third consecutive year?
I knew I was in good swim and bike shape but the run was an unknown, readers of the blog will know the injury issues I have been going through, so run training has been pretty limited this winter.
My race report can be read here on the Raceskin Website . In brief, yes I did put my cycle shoes on the wrong feet, yes I got a nose bleed ( I am blaming it on working hard in the Welsh altitude!)But I did it, 3 Slateman wins in a row, couldn't care less that my legs still hurt.
One tactic for the race "Smash the bike" which in the rain meant, 110% heart, 0% brain on the descents! Awesome new Kronostok 350 wheels from Revolver Wheels, dream ride.
Big thanks to AquaSphere for the new wetsuit and goggles. Check out there facebook page for a write up of how the swim went. No ice to crack, but not quite tropical!
As the title of this blog says, "Slateman, it steals my heart every year". 2014,2015 and now 2016. Well done all those I have shared the podium with, great racing, you have made me work hard to stand on the top step.
Breaking the tape first, Slateman 2014, 2015 and now 2016.
Congratulations to everyone who completed the Slateman this year and in previous years. A fantastic race and one I am proud to have won 3 times in a row.
